Mz. Icar
is an anonymous art collective composed primarily of Black women. Their work, informed by collective experiences and a fascination with color, texture, and proportions, explores play, beauty, and radical liberation. This mural features an abstract composition of the text "Keep Going," embodying the movement and energy of Harriet Tubman and her renowned motto. Through geometry and color, the collective contextualizes their perspective within the constructs of everyday life.
Christian Kanienberg, operating under the name WISH for over two decades, is a proud multidisciplinary artist. Inspired by the native Lenape tribe,
Of Eleven incorporates elements such as Lenape-specific beadwork, arrows, clay vessels, turkey feathers, mushrooms, and flowering plants, forming an altar-like homage to both nature and the Indigenous people. The three beaded portions of the antlers symbolize the first three clans, while the title reflects the cultural significance of the number eleven. As of 2024, it's believed that fewer than eleven Munsee-speaking Lenape ancestors remain.

Jose "BUSTA" Bustamante
currently resides in New Jersey and is heavily influenced by his roots in Chia, Colombia. Inspired by his own culture,
Urban Wilderness celebrates Colombia's rich biodiversity by incorporating native plants into the design, creating a room filled with vibrant foliage. While staying true to his artistic origins, BUSTA infuses graffiti elements into the design, adding an edgy and dynamic vibe to the space. These elements serve as a reminder of the evolving art movement, bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary design.
Over the past 30 years, Robert C. Jackson has exhibited across the country, creating work that contains humor and references to art history. Personalized Museum places its viewer in somewhat of a sacrilegious experience: contemporary art, labeled with dime store post-it notes instead of exquisite museum placards. Adorning this room, Robert has created variances of famous works to fashion a substitute museum encounter, bringing the art world to you. No longer hanging in esteemed institutional walls, these works now hang here in Artelo. His hope, as is true of most of his artwork, is that you encounter a smile during your stay.
Liz Maycox, a multidisciplinary artist, explores identity, consciousness, and humanity in her work. In
Weightless Lines, dark structured lines symbolize the ingrained pathways of perception, culture, and language, while bursts of abstract freedom represent the transformative power of releasing narratives and expanding consciousness. Maycox hopes to encourage viewers to reflect on breaking free from assumed structures, leading to deeper empathy for ourselves and others.
Kala Hagopian founded Hagopian Arts, an independent female-owned and operated public art initiative based out of West Philadelphia, back in 2015. Betsy Casañas is renowned for her vibrant use of pattern and color, as well as her dignified portrayal of marginalized communities. Finding Home celebrates the cultural richness of immigrant communities by merging elements from traditional Mexican Otomi textiles and Caribbean floral motifs. The design showcases vividly painted, highly graphic images of animals and flowers in whimsical patterns, serving as focal points in the room. The bottom wall provides a contrasting backdrop in monochromatic Yellow Ochre, embellished with gold-painted patterns to create a striking wallpaper effect.
Ali Williams
specializes in community-driven public murals, blending organic elements with contemporary iconography.
Disjointed Bloom combines gentle organic elements with a more traditionally feminine color palette, and then challenges that softness by disrupting the image with a linear and abrupt, hard-edge structure. The flowers aim to soften the modern aesthetic of the space while offering a more romantic vibe. The overall muted violet color palette provides a feeling of calm and relaxation, while the fluorescent pink bands of color liven up the artwork.
Wing Chow, a muralist and fine artist who got her start in Richmond, VA, is known for her distinctive amorphous forms. Her work alternates between pure abstraction and loose symbolic narrative, influenced by simple joys and a search for meaning. Grow Room aims to evoke a dreamy and relaxing atmosphere, blending loose, painterly strokes with iridescent accents. Fantasy flora merges seamlessly with organic abstract elements to create a lush, flowing piece that surrounds the viewer with beauty and magic.
Freiman Stoltzfus
is a lifelong lover of nature, spending his formative years working and playing in the fields of Lancaster County. Travel has greatly expanded his artistic vision. During a 2023 visit to Japan, the contemplation of Asian artists and their long, fruitful relationship with the natural world, opened new poetic pathways to him. In
A Poem For The Season, Freiman evokes both energy and restfulness. Inspired by the four seasons and how they represent the passage of time and constant renewal, guests are transported by an imaginative use of color, form, and movement.
Artist
Chenlin Cai
divides his time between Beijing and Philadelphia. His artwork is infused with the contrast between these two cultures and draws both from his classical training and his more innovative and contemporary paint techniques. In
Landscape Iteration, Cai explores the concept of "reformation and reshape." Inspired by the natural landscape, microscopic cellular structures morph into a macroscopic mountain range, echoing traditional Eastern Zen philosophy's view of interconnectedness.
Phillip Adams, a visual artist and muralist from Philadelphia, PA, creates a site-specific mural enveloping viewers in the serenity of a calm, airy day. Floating Free invites them to step into–or even sleep among–the clouds. Through his work, Phillip questions the delicate balance between play and responsibility regarding our environments. While releasing balloons may seem captivating, they can pollute remote places and endanger wildlife. This mural aims to inspire contemplation of our complex relationship with nature and wonder.
Philadelphia native
Alloyius Mcilwaine
is a self-taught artist known for his freestyle abstract art. In
Augmented Abstractions, he aims to transport viewers into an abstract universe using over lapping versions of his signature shapes, called "Kudoglyphs," which symbolize positive affirmations like growth and passion.
